Double the Speed of Breakfast

by TJ

For four years we’ve only used two sections of our four-slice toaster. The second side broke six months after we bought it.

For four years our three children scrambled for the toaster on Pop Tart or bagel mornings. Each wanted to be the first to get one of the two sections. One always had to wait. And complain.

It seemed silly that two sides of our toaster stood empty while three children argued over the other two spots. But since we’re so good at making do with what we have, it seemed silly to replace it.

Until now. NH thought it was silly not to take apart the toaster, look inside and see what was wrong. So, he did. And he fixed it.

This morning, thanks to my son, we doubled the speed of breakfast. Four years and he simply did it. I wish I were as handy as that. But even though I’m not, I’m glad I’m surrounded by family members who are.
