A Week of Mourning and Remembering

by TJ

My father-in-law, Jerry Paul Hirst, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, January 11, 2010, the very day I predicted this to be our year of happiness.

We’re mourning his loss.

He is the first of our parents to die, which brings its own set of firsts for us and for our children, who’ve now felt the reality of death. I’m not ready to write—still processing my thoughts and feelings.

Even though we’re sad and we will miss Dad and Pappa, we find comfort in sorrow from the loving attentions and service so many give in times of need and from our knowledge of Heavenly Father’s Great Plan of Happiness.

Happiness in this eternal perspective is still with us.

Are we really at that stage of life where our parents, parents-in-law, could be moving on? Your experience last week got me thinking about how weird it is to be in that phase of life. I hope you are feeling the comfort and peace of the Spirit. I love you all!

I am so sorry for your loss! What a rough time for your family! I said a little prayer for your family as I read your post!

I had a conversation with a friend on Sunday who has also lost his father this last year. We must definitely be in that stage as eight of us roughly the same age sat together on Friday night, five of the eight have lost one if not both parents. Our prayers and thoughts are with you all!

I am so sorry to hear about Paul’s father. It’s a stage of life I’m definitely not prepared for yet….not sure I ever will be. I never met Paul’d dad; but knowing the quality of son he has, he must have been a wonderful man. My thoughts and prayes are with your family.

I am truly sorry. Aren’t we blessed to know that we will see each other again someday. My thoughts are with you and your family.
